Reduce Food Waste at Home
Stop Throwing Good Food Away
The average UK household throws away nearly £800 worth of food every year. Overripe bananas, soft tomatoes, herbs wilting in the fridge, fruit that's just past its best — food that could so easily be saved, preserved and enjoyed rather than binned.
The Ezidri FD1000 food dehydrator is one of the most effective tools you can own for reducing food waste at home. Instead of throwing food away, you preserve it naturally at its peak — locking in flavour and nutrition for months to come.
Why Dehydrating is the Best Way to Reduce Food Waste
Preserve food before it spoils
Dehydrating removes the moisture that causes food to spoil. Fruit that's one day away from the bin can be transformed into delicious dried snacks or fruit leather that lasts for months.
No special equipment or skills needed
Unlike bottling or canning, dehydrating requires no specialist knowledge, no sterilising and no complicated processes. Prepare your food, load the trays, set the temperature and walk away.
Reduce your shopping bill
When you stop wasting food you stop wasting money. Buying in bulk when produce is cheap and in season — then dehydrating and storing it — means you always have good food to hand and spend far less over the course of a year.
A genuinely sustainable choice
Dehydrating uses minimal energy compared to freezing over a long period. The Ezidri FD1000 consumes just 1000W during the drying cycle — and once food is dried it needs no energy at all to store.
What Can You Save?
Almost any food approaching the end of its fresh life can be given a new one:
- Overripe bananas — dry into banana chips or blend into fruit leather
- Soft tomatoes — dry into intensely flavoured sun-dried style slices or powder
- Wilting herbs — dry at low temperature to preserve full flavour and aroma
- Surplus garden produce — courgettes, beans, onions, chillies, all easily preserved
- Slightly soft apples and pears — slice and dry into delicious crisps
- Leftover cooked meals — soups, stews and casseroles can all be dehydrated and reconstituted later
- Bread going stale — dry into breadcrumbs for long term use
- Citrus peel — dry and use in cooking, baking or homemade pot pourri
How It Works
1. Sort your produce — anything approaching the end of its fresh life is a candidate
2. Prepare and slice — remove any genuinely bad parts, slice to around 5mm
3. Load the trays — single layers for even drying
4. Set temperature — fruits and vegetables at 55°C, herbs at 30°C - 40°C, cooked meals at 60°C
5. Set timer — 6 to 12 hours depending on food type
6. Store in airtight jars or containers away from light and moisture
With capacity for up to 30 trays the Ezidri FD1000 lets you process a significant quantity of food in a single run — making it easy to tackle a full fridge clear-out in one go.
