Homemade High Energy Trail Mix — Fuel for the Trail

Homemade High Energy Trail Mix — Fuel for the Trail

Every hiker needs a reliable source of energy on the trail.
Homemade trail mix made with the Ezidri FD1000 is the perfect
solution — lightweight, packed with natural energy and completely
customisable to your own taste.

Why Make Your Own Trail Mix?

Shop bought trail mix is expensive and often contains unnecessary
added sugar, cheap fillers and artificial flavourings. Making your
own means you get exactly what you want — high quality dried fruit,
nuts and seeds with nothing else added.

What You'll Need

- 2 bananas sliced 5mm thick
- 2 apples peeled, cored and sliced 5mm thick
- 100g strawberries halved
- 100g mixed nuts — almonds, cashews, walnuts
- 50g pumpkin seeds
- 50g sunflower seeds
- 50g dark chocolate chips — add after drying

How to Make High Energy Trail Mix

Dehydrate the fruit:
1. Preheat Ezidri FD1000 to 55°C
2. Arrange fruit slices in a single layer on mesh sheets
3. Dry at 55°C for 8 to 16 hours depending on fruit —
bananas take 12 to 16 hours,
   apples 8 to 12 hours,
   strawberries 8 to 10 hours
4. Fruit should be leathery and dry with no moisture remaining
5. Allow to cool completely

Assemble:
1. Mix dried fruit with nuts, seeds and chocolate chips
2. Portion into individual airtight bags —
   approximately 100g per serving
3. Store in a cool dry place until needed

On the trail:
Eat straight from the bag whenever energy levels drop.
Each 100g serving provides a sustained release of natural
energy from the combination of fruit sugars, healthy fats
and protein.

Storage
Store in airtight bags in a cool dry place for up to 6 weeks.

Tips for Best Results
- Dry each fruit separately as drying times vary significantly
- The Ezidri FD1000's even airflow ensures every piece
dries consistently — no checking or rotating needed
- Add the chocolate chips after drying —
  never dehydrate chocolate
- Experiment with different combinations —
mango and coconut, cherry and almond,
apple and cinnamon all work brilliantly
