Homemade Dehydrated Porridge Pouches — The Ultimate Camping Breakfast

Homemade Dehydrated Porridge Pouches — The Ultimate Camping Breakfast

A hot, filling breakfast is essential on a camping trip or long hike.
These homemade dehydrated porridge pouches are lightweight, nutritious
and ready in just minutes with nothing but boiling water — perfect for
cold mornings in the outdoors.

Why Make Your Own Porridge Pouches?

Commercial instant porridge sachets are expensive, high in sugar and
come in limited flavours. Making your own at home with the Ezidri FD1000
means you control every ingredient — and you can customise each pouch
to exactly what you want.

What You'll Need

- 200g rolled oats
- 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
- 100g mixed dried fruit — raisins, cranberries, chopped apricots
- 50g mixed seeds or chopped nuts
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 50g milk powder — for a creamier result at camp

How to Make Dehydrated Porridge Pouches

Prepare at home:
1. Cook porridge as normal using rolled oats
2. Stir in honey, cinnamon and salt
3. Allow to cool completely
4. Mix through dried fruit, seeds and nuts

Dehydrate:
1. Preheat Ezidri FD1000 to 55°C
2. Spread porridge mixture evenly onto solid sheets
   approximately 5mm thick
3. Dry at 55°C for 8 to 10 hours until completely
   dried and crumbly
4. Break into pieces and mix with milk powder
5. Portion into individual airtight bags —
   approximately 80g per serving

At camp:
1. Add boiling water to the bag or a cup —
   approximately 200ml per serving
2. Stir well and leave for 3 minutes
3. Stir again and eat straight from the bag
   to save on washing up

Storage
Store in airtight bags in a cool dry place for up to 2 months.

Tips for Best Results
- Add a small square of dark chocolate to each pouch
for extra energy and a morning treat
- Vary the dried fruit and nuts for each pouch so
  every morning feels different
- Write the water quantity on each bag before you leave home
- Pre-portion into individual bags so there's no weighing
  or measuring needed at camp
