look no further than homemade dehydrated chicken strips. Just one ingredient,
no additives, no preservatives — and incredibly easy to make with the Ezidri FD1000.
Why Dogs Love Dehydrated Chicken Strips
Chicken is one of the most digestible proteins for dogs. Dehydrating it at a low,
controlled temperature locks in the natural flavour and nutrition while removing
all moisture — creating an intensely flavoured treat that dogs find irresistible.
They're also perfect for training. Lightweight, easy to break into small pieces
and smelly enough to get any dog's attention.
What You'll Need
- 500g chicken breast — skinless, boneless
- Ezidri FD1000 with mesh sheets
That's it. No seasoning, no oil, no additives. Dogs don't need any of that
and many seasonings common in human food — like garlic and onion — are
actually toxic to dogs.
How to Make Chicken Strip Dog Treats
1. Preheat your Ezidri FD1000 to 60°C
2. Slice chicken breast into strips approximately 5mm thick —
cut across the grain for a chewier treat or with the grain for
something that snaps more easily
3. Pat strips dry with kitchen paper to remove excess moisture
4. Lay strips in a single layer on the mesh sheets —
do not overlap
5. Load trays into the Ezidri FD1000
6. Dry at 60°C for 6 to 8 hours until completely dried through
with no moist spots remaining
7. Allow to cool completely before storing
Dryness Test
Bend a strip — it should be firm and leathery with no moisture
visible. If it bends without resistance and feels soft in the
middle return it to the Ezidri for another hour.
Storage
Store in an airtight container in a cool dry place for up to
8 weeks. Refrigerate for up to 3 months or freeze for up to 6 months.
Tips for Best Results
- Always use fresh, high quality chicken breast
- Remove all skin and visible fat before slicing —
fat does not dehydrate well and can cause treats to go rancid
- Partially freezing the chicken for 30 minutes before slicing
makes it much easier to get even 5mm strips
- Make a large batch — the Ezidri FD1000 can hold up to 30 trays
so you can make months worth in one go
A Note on Safety
Always ensure chicken treats are fully dehydrated before storing.
Any remaining moisture can cause mould and bacteria growth.
When in doubt, return to the Ezidri for longer.
